08-10-2009 - Blue Devils power their way to Gold at DCI Championships

FJM Client Corps, the Blue Devils, topped off their undefeated season by taking the 2009 DCI World Class Championship Title with a near record setting score of 99.05 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis this past weekend.

Blue Devils "1930" show had been leading the pack all season, and for good reason. The experienced staff put together a top flight program, and the performance level of the obviously talented members rivaled that of any corps in DCI history. It was an excellent year for World Class Finals, and to finish at the top of this class in 2009 (after a heart-breaking defeat in finals last year) is a serious statement as to the true capacity of the Blue Devils organization.

In muscling their way to the Gold, BD swept all cations except for Brass, and received 1st place nods from 7 of the 10 judges and three perfect scores of 20! FJM is proud to be a longtime partner in the success of the Blue Devils organization. Everyone here at FJM would like to extend our most sincere congratulations to the Blue Devils on taking their 13th DCI World Class Title! Well done!

In taking the Silver Medal (2nd Place - 97.50) FJM Client Corps Carolina Crown made history by finishing in the top 3 for the first time in it's history. Crown's production of "The Grass is Always Greener" has been a fan favorite around the country this year, so it came as no surprise that they took the Fan Network Fan Choice Award for the 2009 season.

The versatility of Crown's FJM uniform has come to serve them well. This impressive Cesario creation, with it's unique ability for the addition of design variables is truly one of a kind.

Crown had their performance of the year in finals, which had many wondering if they could possibly catch up to BD in the end. But it was not to be. Crown did however take the Brass caption and also placed first in Music Ensemble giving them the Music caption overall by .1 over BD. Great job Crown!

The Cavaliers (4th Place - 96.15) "Great Divide" show really came off well at Lucas Oil Stadium, and this talented corps did not relinquish their decade long top 3 steak easily. The Cavies placed 3rd in both Visual and Music, including an impressive 2nd place in Visual Performance. But a 5th place finish in GE held them back from the Bronze.

The Connection between The Green Machine and FJM goes back a long way. FJM designer Michael Cesario (DCI as well as Cavalier Hall of Fame member) created the iconic Cavalier look way back in the early 80's. All of us at FJM look forward to once again working with The Cavaliers on next years new vision.

The Boston Crusaders (7th Place - 90.70) had a season that Executive Director Tom Spataro admitted, "....far exceeded our expectations." Boston placed 7th in both GE and Visual, with an 8th place in Music. One of the things people talked a lot about this season was the new FJM uniform - a modern take on a new classic look with all of the white highlights which really made the corps "pop" off the field.

Phantom Regiment (9th place - 89.90) brought their show "The Red Violin" to life for the crowd in Indy this past weekend. Their stunningly beautiful, classy and elegant new FJM uniforms were all the talk this year. Regiment placed 7th in Music including a 6th in Brass and a 5th in Percussion, but it wasn't enough to maintain their 8th Place finish from Semi-Finals missing by a scant .15 overall.

Glassmen (10th Place - 87.75) had a very successful season. They were neck and neck with Blue Knights (11th Place - 86.45) for most of the season, but the G-Men pulled away at the end. Glassmen took 8th in Visual Performance and 9th in Color Guard, while BK's strength came in Music Ensemble where they placed 10th.

Overall, FJM had 7 of the 12 World Class finalist corps in Cesario uniforms! We also had 10 of the 17 World Class Semi-Finalists and 13 of the 22 competing World Class Corps!

In Semi-Finals, the Colts (13th Place - 85.60) just missed the final spot in finals by only .3 of a point. Colts placed 12th in both GE and Visual with a show that everyone agreed was a step up from the year before. Crossmen (16th - Place - 81.65) had a strong performance in Semi's that kept them ahead of Spirit (17th Place - 80.45).

FJM also had 3 more corps that competed in Quarter-Finals. Jersey Surf (20th Place - 78.55), Pioneer (21st Place - 75.75) and Cascades (22nd Place - 74.95)

Congratulations to all of the World Class Corps in 2009. This was one heck of a season to remember, and FJM is already looking forward to 2010 with great anticipation.
